Designated as a Metropolitan Region in 2012, the fourth in the state of São Paulo, the Metropolitan Region of the Paraiba Valley and North Coast (MRPVNC) comes in as the 10th largest metro area in Brazil, with 2.26 million inhabitants.
The region is composed of 39 municipalities, of which São José dos Campos is the largest, with about 650,000 inhabitants.
The MRPVNC makes up, together with the Metropolitan Regions of Campinas and São Paulo, the southern hemisphere’s first mega-metropolis.
Of the three, the MRPVNC has received, by far, the least attention of churches of Christ. Four small congregations meet in the municipalities of São José dos Campos Taubaté, Guaratinguetá, and Ilha Bela.
